The Department is running a driving school and students are tested and awarded driving licenses by the Uganda Police. This has provided additional skills for survival.
For over 40 years the department has trained many people who are presently serving the nation in both Government and Private Sectors. Many of those who have passed through the department are engineers, scholars, technicians, drivers, inspectors and many other prominent personalities within here and outside.
The Department targets short courses in say: Auto-wiring, Motor Cycle Repair & Maintenance, Panel Beating etc.
There is serious need to attach the departmental programs to the well established institutions like Cooper Motors, Spear Motors and many others around, for exchange of knowledge as a means of enhancing training, e.g. it has already attached itself to Victoria Motors.
The Department will soon get involved in conducting more Seminars and Workshops to update the teachers and students in the academic and professional knowledge and skills.
After acquiring Part II Certificate one can proceed for a Diploma course or degree course in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
